2021.11.01. 「ESG Management and Zero Waste」
Date: 2021-11-24  |  Read: 80

Professor HOYOUNG LEE of the center contributed to Korea University’s graduate newspaper in November 2021 under the theme of “ESG Management and Zero Waste.” In the article, Professor Lee emphasized that “it is time for a mature culture and citizenship against overconsumption to reduce waste.” Prof. Hoyoung Lee also stated the following: “Waste Management is one of the listed companies in the United States. Founded in 1968, the company specializes in collecting and recycling industrial and household waste. The company’s stock price rose 100 times from $1.6 in early 1990 to $160 as of October 20, 2021. The fact that the value of waste disposal-related companies has risen significantly may mean that people’s concerns about environmental pollution and government regulations to prevent environmental pollution have increased. It may also mean that environmental pollution has dramatically increased. The problem of waste is directly related to consumer life, which is the basis of our survival. In particular, controversy continues over where and how to dispose of daily household waste in cities where humans live in groups. ESG management is directly linked to the garbage problem. ESG management, which has been receiving great attention from the media since 2020, is a term coined by combining the first English letters of corporate environment, social, and governance. The core of ESG management is not only the industrial waste generated during a company's production activities, but also the management's philosophy, will, and practice on how to cope with the secondary waste problem in the distribution of the product.”
