As logistics and supply chain management capabilities have become essential for firms to obtain competitive advantage in a highly competitive global economy, the measurement of logistics performance to improve these capabilities has grown increasingly important. This paper offers a systematic review on major existing studies on logistics performance measurement issues. The discussion is centered around the studies sponsored by Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) as those studies laid the groundwork for follow-up studies on logistics performance measurement. Recent research that may set the agenda for future works on logistics measurement systems is also reviewed to present four major guidelines for the design, or redesign, of logistics performance measurement systems. Future research is also called for the advancement of logistics performance measurement in the means of embracing current trends in global economy.
